A Devonshire woman has made plans to travel to Lincoln this May to participate in the St Barnabas Hospice Colour Dash in memory of her dad

Following a big surge in sign-ups to this year’s Colour Dash, St Barnabas has seen people register from across the country. Jill Wilkinson, 56, from Devon has decided to share her reasons why she will be making the 260-mile trip up North to take part.

Jill said:

“The nurses at St Barnabas were absolutely fantastic in the way they cared for Dad. They got to know him and my mum well, and were very warm and loving.

“The stand-out to me was that my dad was able to make all his own decisions thanks to the Hospice, and he kept his humour to the end.

“I’m really looking forward to sharing Dad’s memory with others, and talking to people who have been through the same thing. I’m taking part together with a group of friends, and we hope to raise over £500 for the Hospice.”

The Colour Dash is a 5k route dotted with various coloured paint stations, ensuring participants get sprayed with environmentally friendly powder at every kilometre. Participants can run, walk or dance the route to raise money to get fit or in honour of a loved one.

Becky Otter, Event Manager for St Barnabas Hospice, said:

“It’s lovely to hear all the reasons why people want to participate in events such as the Colour Dash, and some of the stories are so moving.

“I feel proud that we are able to put on an event which people come from all over the country to take part in, and it is obviously a great outlet to help people remember their loved ones.”

To book a place at the Colour Dash, it will cost only £20 for adults, £10 for children and £50 for a family ticket. There is also the opportunity to book a stall at £100 for the event.

Included in the registration fee is a fundraising pack, neon sunglasses, a bottle of water, a poncho and a commemorative medal.
