Volunteering

Make Friends – Use Your Know How – Make a Difference

We are grateful to the hundreds of people who give their time each week in support of the work of St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice.

Our volunteers are valued as part of our team and we recognise that we couldn’t deliver all of our services to patients and their families without our volunteer support.

We offer volunteering opportunities throughout Lincolnshire and welcome applications from anyone 16 years of age and over. Our volunteers come from all walks of life; some wishing to learn new skills and grow in confidence, with others bringing a lifetime of experiences with them.

All volunteers have an induction, which introduces them to the organisation, and receive training in their chosen role. Health and safety training is updated annually. A varied optional training program and our annual volunteer conference are also open to all volunteers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, all volunteers will have a St Barnabas Induction, either in Lincoln or by DVD, depending on the role you apply for. You will then receive training which is specific to your role, this usually happens at your volunteering base. All volunteers are required to attend a refresher training session each year. Other optional training opportunities are available to volunteers throughout the year.

We have a small number of Duke of Edinburgh placements in some of our shops for those aged 14+. Generally our volunteers are 16 or over, we have no upper age limit.

This very much depends on the volunteering opportunity you are interested in. We don’t ask for a minimum commitment however those volunteers who stay with us for more than six months report a more positive and beneficial experience as they gradually gain a deeper understanding of the organisation and their role. Many of our volunteers regularly donate around 4 hours on a weekly or fortnightly basis however we are happy to hear from those who would like to make a less regular commitment as there are opportunities that offer great flexibility.
