Why should you consider joining St Barnabas?

“To be able to work as part of a team is important and the atmosphere at St Barnabas is upbeat and lively with everyone pulling together.” A St Barnabas Hospice Staff Nurse

Staff Benefits

Education and Training - The St Barnabas Hospice Trust is committed to the continuing personal development of all its staff, from comprehensive induction programs to individual development reviews. Employees also attend internal and external study days and are supported in their work towards gaining NVQs, diplomas and degree level courses; together with shadowing and secondment opportunities. All these mechanisms are used to provide staff with the support they need in achieving their personal development goals.

Pay

St Barnabas Hospice carried out a Trust -wide pay modernisation program during 2006 – 2007, which was implemented on the 1st April 2007. All roles within the Trust were evaluated and bench-marked against similar posts in and around the Lincolnshire area. The results of this program were used by the Trust to develop its own unique pay structure, in order to help attract and retain the highest quality staff within an increasingly competitive environment. The Trust’s own pay structure is linked to three incremental levels of pay, which further reflect academic achievement and professional development.

Enhancements

For nursing staff working unsocial hours, there is an enhancement of 30% on the basic salary rate.

Nursing Ratios

Time to care is valued at St Barnabas. Time to provide high quality, individualised care which meets the needs of the patients and their families. Facilitating adequate time to care supports both staff in terms of job satisfaction as well as meeting the needs of our patients and their carers. For Hospice at Home staff, this means a minimum visit of one hour. Within the Hospice In-Patient Unit, it means a staff to patient ratio of 1 to 2.5, whilst in our day care environment a ratio of 1 nurse to 4 patients, supplemented by volunteer helpers, is our normal practice. The Trust also maintains the flexibility to increase staffing levels from our well trained and experienced bank when patient dependency requires.

Holidays

Qualified clinical staff receive five weeks paid annual leave, while non-clinical staff receive a minimum of four weeks paid annual leave, plus a further three days after five years service. All staff get paid bank holiday entitlement, plus time off in lieu of any bank holidays worked.

Pensions

Employees joining from the NHS can continue to contribute towards their existing NHS pension. For employees not currently in the NHS scheme, St Barnabas Hospice Trust provides a stakeholder pension scheme. Alternatively, staff can opt to have their pension contribution paid direct into their salary or choose to contribute to a pension of their choice through an independent provider.

Confidential Counselling

The St Barnabas Hospice Trust provides its staff with ‘free to use’ access to a confidential counselling, advice and support service through Relate for up to six sessions.

Foresters Health Insurance Scheme

New employees will have the option to join the “Foresters Cash for Health Benefits” programme and obtain a wide variety of benefits.
