As part of the clinical governance agenda the trust seeks to monitor the development and delivery of care through patient and carer surveys and through clinical audit.
Clinical audit is a clinical lead initiative that seeks to improve the quality and outcome of patient care through structured peer review whereby clinicians examine their practice against agreed standards.
At St Barnabas a multi professional team, led by the Audit Officer work through clinical audit. All audits are conducted within the guidelines for Clinical Audit published by the RCN. We also work closely with three other palliative care providers to develop both clinical audit and quality monitoring.
Surveys of patients and carers perceptions of the care they receive from our services are sent out on a regular basis. The results of the latest surveys of the Hospice inpatient care.
Patients may be asked to take part in and audit or survey, if they decline to take part this in no way effects the care they will receive from any part of our service.
The Trust, with the help of Macmillan Cancer Voices, has just begun setting up a user group. The aim of this group is to give patients and carers a voice to influence the way care is provided and the services that are delivered. If you are or have been a user of our services or a carer and would like to become part of the group please contact Linda Parker, Audit Officer on Tel: 01522 518200 for further information.
